Damian ready for UFC Middleweight?
Top UFC middleweight contender, Damian Maia will be putting on his
MMA gloves again as he feels he is ready to take up current UFC middleweight champion title holder Anderson Silva nicknamed ‘The spider’. Talking to Fighters magazine he said:
“I see myself ready to fight for the belt. I would go at Anderson and it would give him the chance of knocking me out or give me the opportunity to finish the fight. That’s what I expect. I’m not saying I will win, but I will fight to end the fight before the judge’s decision. I want to do an aggressive fight and expose myself more. The UFC were waiting on the result of Anderson-Thales match to see what to do with me. They told me they were planning to give me the chance in August but because of their performance the UFC decided not put Silva in a main event very soon. Then they matched me and Nate Marquardt to find out the next challenger for the belt.”
The 32 year old Brazilian MMA fighter who made his debut against Lukas Chlewicki at The Cage – Volume 4 and officially signed his contract with UFC in August of 2007 is planning to take on the 34 year old, fellow Brazilian who made his debut at Ultimate Fight Night 5 on June 28, 2006 against five-time undefeated champion, Chris Laben. Most memorable was his fight against then Middleweight champion, Rich Franklin whose MMA gloves didn’t do much good and was defeated by TKO (strikes) at 2:59 in the first round!
Since Maia hasn’t fought with many top-fighters, he is scheduled for a fight against fellow middleweight contender, Nate Marquardt on August 26, 2009 so he can qualify for the title shot and should be a good warm up for his ‘big fight’ with Silva. Will Silva prove his worth or will he be defeated by Marquardt? We should all be in for some high class MMA gloves clashing this season.
